Julien Deonna is associate professor in the Department of Philosophy of the University of Geneva and Project Leader at the Swiss Center for Affective Sciences (CISA).

After his undergraduate studies at the University of Geneva and a doctoral thesis on empathy at the University of Bristol (2002), he held postdoctoral positions at the universities of Cambridge and UC Berkeley (2002-2004). Today, he conducts most of his research within the framework of Thumos, the Geneva Research Group on Emotions, Values ​​and Norms, which he runs with Fabrice Teroni. Together with Fabrice Teroni, he is the author of In Defense of Shame (OUP, 2011) and The Emotions: a philosophical Introduction (Routledge, 2012).
