The Wyss Center for Bio and Neuroengineering (https://www.wysscenter.ch/), a research and translation center for neurotechnology, is seeking a Neural Engineer to join an international team of scientists, clinicians and engineers who are developing advanced neurotechnology for human applications. The individual will work both independently and collaboratively in a team towards the development of a system to process multimodal signals and to generate control signals for human medical devices used to evaluate or restore lost nervous system function. The resulting real-time system will enable read out of neural activity in various forms, generate complex representations of that activity, and provide closed loop control signals for a range of devices.

Job Description

In his/her position, the Neural Engineer will:

  • Design, implement and test novel, real-time data processing and information extraction algorithms from multimodal data, including but not limited to EEG, ECG, local field potentials and spikes;
  • Develop, implement and test automated methods and analytical tools to deliver insights and hypotheses for multimodal data sets with direct application in the clinical space;
  • Develop and test control algorithms to integrate the Wyss Center’s real-time processing system with other devices, such as robotic limbs, displays, or neural / muscle stimulators;
  • Work with clinicians and engineers to deploy the developed algorithms in a patient/clinician setting.

Profil requis

  • BS or MS in Neuroscience, Computational Neuroscience, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related discipline with at least 5 years (BS) or 3 years (MS) of work experience in an industrial or academic setting 
  • Strong background in Systems Neuroscience and neural signals (single cell electrophysiology) 
  • Familiarity with high-throughput, real-time data acquisition systems, preferably from several manufacturers 
  • Experience with Brain-Machine Interfaces and an interest to improve their functionality
  • Experience applying signal and imaging processing principles, theories, and concepts
  • Excellent coding standards (commenting, documentation, version control)
  • Proficient in C/C++, and preferably Python, MATLAB/Simulink
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills (in English), along with the ability to work well within a cutting edge, fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment
  • Experience with data visualization tools and techniques is a plus
  • Experience with AI is a plus
  • Self-starter with an ability to work independently to identify innovative approaches and solutions

Additional skills include:

  • Experience in working in a tightly regulated industry (medical devices)
  • Ability to work with scientists, clinicians, or electrical/mechanical engineers, to define system specifications, implement and test complex systems
  • Proficiency in French
